Conceived to address the growing capacity constraints of older ports in Lagos, the project was developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model involving international terminal operators and Nigerian stakeholders.
Following its completion, the port marked a historic technological leap for Nigerian maritime infrastructure, introducing fully automated handling systems and ultra-deep channels capable of welcoming mega-vessels.
