History
Developed in the 1950s as the chief maritime port for western India following the partition of the subcontinent, Kandla was built to offset the loss of Karachi Port and rapidly expanded into a major economic powerhouse.
Renamed Deendayal Port in honor of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, the port has continuously scaled its infrastructure, adding specialized oil jetties, offshore oil terminals, and modern dry bulk handling facilities.
